Hawley High School has just received a new roof thanks to a hailstorm almost two years ago. Bids were sent out on four occassions to find the best roof for the high school. Having it replaced during the school year was not going to happen with the traditional tear off and replace method. Maintenance Director, Richard Howeth and I flew to Saginaw, Michigan to view the Durolast plant where they make this type roof. The company believes in their product so much they will fly all prospective customers to their plant at their expense to see just how the materials are manufactured. Their roof is guaranteed for fifteen years while all others would only provide a one year warranty. The price was almost one half the other bids and the insurance company paid for the roof completely. At first glance, it is very different being a smooth white roof. But, we found we can save up to twenty percent on our electricity bills.
We certainly hope the leaks will be stopped with this new style roof and the mold and mildew will be a thing of the past.
